Continued Success for Clover Country CD

Clover Country has sold more than 32,000 copies in just its first six weeks of release. As you may know, that makes it one of the most successful specialty music projects ever--and would place it on the Billboard 200 chart if it were sold through traditional channels! At a time when normal CD distribution methods are struggling, our 4-H nationwide network is showing the music industry its incredible strength. The 4-H CD and the stories of our dedicated alumni have already been featured on national TV networks like CMT, RFD-TV, and GAC and in more than 50 print, online and radio media outlets.

You can help promote Clover Country too by adding the below graphic to your e-mails.

Are You Smarter Than a 4-H'er?

By Kim Grizzard
The Daily Reflection Greenville, NC

It's downright embarrassing for a mature adult to concede intellectual defeat to someone who has to be in bed by nine. Just ask Anne Keene, who stood before a crowd of parents and community leaders and said, "I'm Not Smarter Than a 4-H'er." It was tongue-in-cheek revelation for Keene and other contestants who "peeked" and "copied" their way through Pitt County 4-H's "Are You Smarter Than a 4-H'er?" competition.

The game show, held at the Pitt County Agricultural Center, was a fundraiser inspired by the Fox network program, "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth-Grader?" The competition challenged a mayor, a sportscaster and other local celebrities to match wits with 4-H'ers.
Contestants and 4-H'ers answered questions on topics such as leadership, citizenship, animal science and health.

The Return of Citizenship Washington Focus

By Craig Alameda and Rachel Thompson (CWF PAs)

It's summer time again. That means the return of barbeques, swimming pools, and most exciting of all, 4-H's own summer youth leadership program, Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF). The program was created in 1959 and was originally called the Citizenship Short Course. The name was later changed to Citizenship Washington Focus. This program brings 4-H youth from across the country to Washington, DC for a week, where they learn about citizenship, leadership, and civic engagement through committees, workshops and tours of their nation's capital. This summer, over 1,700 delegates will attend from 26 different states. The college-age CWF Program Assistants (PAs) mentor the students during their week at National 4-H Youth Conference Center.

In addition to providing licensed tours of the nation's capital, CWF PAs facilitate workshops on Congressional issues and lead committee meetings tackling such issues as healthy living, government, and public relations. Week one began June 4 with delegates from Iowa, Kansas, Alabama, and North Dakota. The conference will continue for six weeks, finishing on July 12.
